Job Description

The unit, running with an emphasis on forage/grazing, has 360 Crossbred cows, block calving in the autumn period.  There is an excellent mix of responsibilities in a rota system, made up of a 3-man team throughout the year, which includes milking, fertility, grassland management, TMR feeding and associated stock work.

The herd is managed on a forage-based system with the housed period on sand cubicles with semi TMR feeding; the yields are 7,500 litres a cow.  Milking is through a superb 24:48 parlour, DTL with ACR’s, complete with auto shedding, heat time and state of the art handling facilities; the building project has been finished off new calf rearing facilities.

If you are looking for a challenging team role with a future, can offer a solid foundation of stockmanship, consistency and attention to detail, please contact James Picot on 07802 596633 for more details.

FACT SHEET

Location: The farm is situated between Norwich and Kings Lynn, about 20 miles from both.  The very pleasant village of Litcham is 2 miles from the farm and has primary and secondary schools, post office and shops.  Swaffham is 10 miles away and the small town of Fakenham is 6 miles from the farm, giving a selection of amenities.

The Farm: Whilst this is an 800-acre arable/dairy farm, staffed by a team of two on the arable and a team of three on the dairy, the farm is undergoing a transition to expand the dairy enterprise with an additional unit within the farm boundary.  Grassland is established on the heavier land and the area is well suited of livestock farming.  The farm is in a share agreement with the owner off the farm with the family based in Lincolnshire.

The Unit: This is a good, well equipped and well-maintained unit with a 6 year old 24:48 DTL parlour with ACR’s.  There is a dump line and auto ID, the new facilities also include Heat Time and AI/handling area; finished off with a new calf housing built this year. The cows are cubicle housed with a large feed area central to the cubicles.  Grazing surrounds the unit; the arable buildings are away from the dairy unit.

The Dairy Herd: This is an excellent herd of cows calving ideally from August to November.  The herd average is 7,500 litres on a grazing/buffer feeding system.  The aim is to maintain cow numbers and maintain the block calving system which suits the overall farm structure.

Accommodation: There is good family accommodation on the unit.  It is in very good order and free from rent, rates and Council Tax.

Remuneration: Subject to negotiation.

Time off: 85 days per contract year.

Summary: This is an excellent opportunity to complete an LKL team, assisting the Share Farmer who seeks a team capable of taking responsibility and who will be jointly committed to the success of the unit.
