Dairy Farm Manager-3000 Cows-The Sudan-ILweb1783, The Sudan
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and skilled manager to head up the team on a large scale dairy farm in The Sudan.
The role would entail all aspects of dairy farm and herd management in a hot climate. You will have overall responsibility for the performance of the herd, management of the staff, liaising with vets, consultants, nutritionists and the cropping manager. You will report to the owners and their representatives on a weekly basis and are ultimately charged with the task of producing quality hygienic milk, consistent yields, heifer replacements and a happy healthy herd to world class standards within a profitable business structure. You will have practical, hands on style, knowing that to truly manage a herd of cows, you must be in and amongst that herd of cows. You will also be responsible for the team on farm and the successful candidate will have both excellent stockmanship skills coupled with excellent people management skills.
You will have experience in a similar role, preferably outside of the EU or US and within a developing country ideally in North Africa/The Arab States. You will have an understanding of the challenges of milk production in a tropical climate and managing local people and you will be able to train, motivate and lead by example.
The modern unit is extremely well invested and has security of milk contract with huge opportunity through the realisation of the performance potential in the current herd and possible herd expansion in the longer term. Currently the herd is made up of around 3000 Holstein cows mainly from US genetics plus followers and young stock and the unit enjoys excellent up to date facilities and equipment, including those to minimise heat stress and the impact of the climate on milk production.
The Sudan is an inspiring country with a rich and fascinating history and we seek candidates that will not only be sensitive to, but embrace the local culture, those able to thrive in a country that is perhaps different to their own and that are keen to take herd performance from its current status to world class results.
In return for your efforts we offer a highly competitive ex pat package and the chance to be the lead person of a new management team on a project that has wide recognition.
