Herdsperson/Assistant to Manager-Herefordshire-750 cows-ILweb2005, Herefordshire
A rare opportunity has arisen to be a key member of the team on a highly progressive and well managed dairy unit near Bromyard, Herefordshire.
Whilst maintaining the standards the herd is used to, the role would entail all aspects of herdsmanship including approximately 5 milkings per week, fertility work, herd health and welfare and record keeping. In addition to the cow work you will also aid, lead and motivate the team; a mix of UK and Eastern European staff, being able to demonstrate through example the very best practices. You will liaise regularly with the owners, herd manager, nutritionists and consultants and in the herd manager’s absence and take responsibility for the unit.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a similar role, be qualified in AI, foot trimming and have shown to have progressed throughout their career. You will be a strong communicator, have an eye for detail and be as much people minded as you are cow minded. The position would suit someone in their final role before full herd management and the opportunity to work for the next few years on such a unit, under such a manager, will help propel you towards this goal.
The well invested farm comprises of a 50 point GEA rotary parlour fitted with ADF dip and flush system, auto ID, shedding gates and excellent handling facilities. The 750 strong herd is milked 3x per day, cubicle housed all year round and enjoys high levels of milk production, fertility and milk quality results through excellent management and attention to detail.
We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and professional person who, working alongside the herd manager, will take a high level of responsibility for the herd and team.
In return for your efforts you will receive a competitive salary with bonus schemes, regular time off and family accommodation free of rent and council tax plus the chance to be a key player within a highly regarded dairy farming business.
