Job Skills

Candidates will need to have an empathy for the Jersey cow, do all the milking, scraping, bedding, feeding using a mixer wagon, (including young-stock) and day-to- day management of the herd to include calving, heat detection and monthly vet routines.

Job Description

This well managed 120 cow AYR calving herd of Jerseys is yielding 5,200 litres @ 6.2% fat and 4.2% protein for their own in house milk processing operation, so needs to produce milk of the highest quality.

This NMR recorded herd is milked 2 x via 12 x 12 Herringbone parlour with ACR’s and feeders.  While housed cows are in a cubicle shed bedded with straw and tractor scraped, when weather permits cows graze within a set stocking routine.

Foot trimming is done via a contract trimmer and Cogent do the inseminations.

Help is available at all times from the farmer.
