We have new contract vacancy for an enthusiastic Herdsperson to join a family farming operation near Chepstow.
Candidates will need to have an empathy for the Jersey cow, do all the milking, scraping, bedding, feeding using a mixer wagon, (including young stock) and day-to-day management of the herd to include calving, heat detection and monthly vet routines. Foot trimming is done via a contract trimmer and Cogent do the inseminations.
This well managed 120 cow AYR calving herd of Jerseys is yielding 5,200 litres @ 6.2% Fat and 4.2% protein for their own in-house milk processing operation, so needs to produce milk of the highest quality, for cheese and ice cream making.
This NMR recorded herd is milked 2 x via 16 x 16 Herringbone parlour with ACR’s and feeders. While housed cows are in a cubicle shed bedded with straw and tractor scraped, when weather permits cows graze within a set stocking routine.
Help is available at all times from the farmer.
A competitive package to go along with a 3-bed bungalow on farm, with 2 days off alternate weeks is on offer.
