Due to career progression of a team member; we have a vacancy for an enthusiastic herdsperson to join an excellent team on a well-known family dairy business.
The farm seeks and will reward enthusiasm, livestock skills and commitment with a diverse role. You will play an active part in the performance of the herd and youngstock. The farm continues to invest with an emphasis on operating as a team and the unit comprises of:
• Great milking environment with 32 point rotary Westfalia parlour with “heat time” and auto-drafting and ADF dipping and flushing
• Excellent handling facilities and dairy buildings
• Well-staffed with a first class, dedicated team on the farm
• Continuous training opportunities both on and off farm to enable everyone to operate to their full potential.
The herd is heading towards 500 cows, milked 3 times a day and calving between August and April. With milk sales above 12,000 litres per cow the farm provides an excellent opportunity to apply husbandry and stockmanship as a member of a very skilled and focused team.

LOCATION: The farm is situated approximately one mile from Steyning, a picturesque village with fantastic views over the South Downs, which has very good schools, shops and sports facilities. Brighton, Chichester, Worthing, Horsham and Gatwick Airport are all within easy reach so there are a huge range of facilities in the area.
FARM: This mixed farm is 2000 acres across two locations. Primary farm enterprises include dairy, arable and sheep. This is a family owned business, with the family taking an active role in the running of the farm.
UNIT: This is a fantastic umbrella unit, based around a Westfalia 32 point rotary parlour with ADF, auto ID shedding, and “Heat Time”. There are excellent handling facilities, the housing is either new or recently refurbished mattress cubicles with feed passages, there is rubber matting throughout the parlour, races, part collecting yard and main feed passage.
DAIRY HERD: Calving takes place all year round; this is a very well looked after herd rising to 500 cows; milked 3 times a day with an average yield in excess of 12,000 litres. The cows are pedigree Holsteins with elite classifications as well as being the #2 PLI herd in the country. The cows are fed a true T.M.R diet; the ration is maize, grass and additional straights mixed on farm.
ACCOMMODATION: There is the potential for excellent on farm accommodation, surrounded by the South Downs on the farm, near the unit.
REMUNERATION: Subject to negotiation.
TIME OFF: 80 days per contract year.
SUMMARY: This is an all-round herd care role, leading to responsibilities within an excellent team, experiencing every aspect of commercial milk production and herd care. Someone who has a desire to integrate, learn and contribute with the teams around them will do very well and have opportunities for progression. While some dairy experience would be preferable the right attitude and the ability to learn is more important. The business will offer the successful candidate every opportunity for training and to gain further experience on all aspects of herd management. The Dairy takes pride in seeing people grow their skill set and take on additional responsibilities where possible.
