Ambitious Herdsperson-Holsworthy-Devon-HHweb1892, Devon
We have a new interesting and exciting contract vacancy for an assistant to the farmer on a 170 cow herd near Holsworthy in West Devon.
The role will encompass every aspect of the running of the farm, from milking (7-8 per week), AI, foot trimming, TMR feeding, calf rearing, DYS work, occasional field work, record keeping etc. Your skillset is less important than your attitude as training can be provided.
The herd has been very well managed for many years by the farmer and his wife with support from local relief. They now feel that the time is right to introduce a full-time member of staff to ease their load.
The herd is housed year round in a modern well designed building with auto scrapers and sand cubicles. Milking is through a modern Westphalia 10:20 herringbone parlour fitted with auto ID, milk meters and ADF. Calves are reared in individual pens and older youngstock spend the winter in a purpose built shed.
This is a progressive position with the opportunity for the successful candidate to take an increasing level of responsibility. An excellent package awaits to include regular time off, salary commensurate with the position and your skillset and a very good, 3-bedroom farmhouse, in a quiet rural setting, with stunning views, rayburn, central heating, double glazing and a large garden about 3 miles from the market town of Holsworthy, which will be provided free from rent and council tax.
