Beef Feedlot Manager-New Large Scale Operation-The Sudan-ILweb1858
Beef Feedlot Manager-New Large Scale Operation-The Sudan-ILweb1858, The Sudan
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and skilled feedlot manager to head up the team on a large scale beef feedlot unit in The Sudan.
The role would entail all aspects of feedlot management in a hot climate. You will have overall responsibility for the performance of the herd, management of the staff, liaising with vets, consultants, nutritionists and the cropping manager. You will report to the owners and their representatives on a weekly basis and are ultimately charged with the task of producing quality meat to global standards, consistent supply and DLWG, all within a profitable business structure. You will have a practical, hands-on style, knowing that to truly manage a herd, you must be in and amongst that herd. You will also be responsible for the team on farm and the successful candidate will have both excellent stockmanship skills coupled with excellent people management skills.
You will have experience in a similar role, preferably outside of the EU or US and within a developing country - Africa/The Arab States would be a bonus. You will certainly have an understanding of the challenges of beef production in a hot climate, disease control and challenges in such an environment and managing local people - you will be able to train, motivate and lead by example.
The modern unit is in final stages of construction with completion set for early spring. Designed with the most up to date worldwide practices, the unit is well invested by the parent company who have other farming interests as well as agri and food chain companies amongst their wide portfolio. The unit has been designed to take animals in from a wide variety of sources including strategically placed collection centres across the country where local farmers can bring their animals. They will meet a certain criteria in terms of weight, age and disease status before arriving to the main unit for finishing to slaughter and it is anticipated that they will comprise of mainly local breeds.
A part of the role would entail outreach and education to these farmers.
The unit has been designed to worldwide standards with the aim of producing a final carcass to those same global standards through careful disease control, quality but efficient feeding, upmost animal health and minimum stress therefore maximising the daily liveweight gain. With huge potential and the expectation to grow to numbers of animals into the tens of thousands this a very exciting project and one that will be high profile across North Africa.
The Sudan is an inspiring country with a rich and fascinating history and we seek candidates that will not only be sensitive to, but embrace the local culture, those able to thrive in a country that is perhaps different to their own and that are keen to seize the challenge and be the person to make this project a successful, profitable reality.
In return for your efforts we offer a highly competitive ex pat package and the chance to be the lead person of a new management team on a project that has wide recognition.
