Staffing

The Herd

The herd consists of a mixture of Friesian X Jersey X Holstein cows yielding on average 5,500 litres. There are plans to increase the herd by another 50 cows over the next couple of years with on-house replacements.

Cows are block calved between March and August and are grazed for as long as the weather dictates (March – early Nov) and are currently housed in covered loose yards on woodchip.

Feet & Fertility

Feet are addressed mainly in-house with very few problems occurring. Insemination and heat detection of the cows is carried by an external contractor.

Nutrition

Cows are grazed whenever possible and buffer fed fresh ‘zero-grazed’ grass whenever necessary. During the winter months grass silage is fed through a diet feeder along the feed fence for the cows.
