We seek a reliable operator with a solid machinery/dairy background looking to progress their career by assisting with the day-to-day routine and management of a 350-cow herd on a recognised tight autumn block calving, forage-based system. The herd is cubicle housed, with easy-feed grass/maize silage fed as self-feed and in mangers, with concentrates fed in the 16:32 DTL parlour.
There is the opportunity for the successful applicant to join a large, well known dairy farming family business, focussing on field work, forage production, grassland management, machinery maintenance and have an input with the milking herd and youngstock, with the added benefit of general support from this committed farming operation.

LOCATION: The farm is situated near Smallfield which has good general facilities. The town of Horley is nearby with a choice of primary schools, village shops and facilities. The larger, popular town of Crawley is about 8 miles away with secondary schools and colleges and a huge selection of shops and amenities.
THE FARM: The unit is part of a large farming operation, approximately 1000 cows in three herds, on units that are fairly close together. The farms are all well equipped and maintained. The owners are all actively involved in the running of the farms.
THE UNIT: The unit comprises of a 16:32 DTL herringbone parlour, cubicles for cows and heifers, some loose yards and silage clamps with feed area for mangers. The dairy facility is tidy, spacious, and in good working order
THE DAIRY HERD: Approximately 350 Friesian/Holstein cows block calved over 10 weeks from the end of August. Yields are around 7000 litres/cow, the focus is on production from grass and maize forage/grazing.
ACCOMMODATION: A modern two-bedroom flat is available, in a pleasant spot on the farm grounds. The accommodation is free from rent, rates and the farmer pay the council tax.
REMUNERATION: Subject to negotiation; depending on age and experience.
TIME OFF: 85 days off per contract year.
ROLE SUMMARY: The farm does operate with two other dairy units outside of the cows and youngstock. The business is mainly self sufficient with forage production, field work and slurry/dirty water management. This role will involver playing a part in all these operations and an element of stock work, winter cow feeding and routine work with some relief milking.
