This family farm in Norfolk moved into brand new facilities on a green field site in September 2023 expanding their existing herd to 300 cows on an autumn block calving system.
With our current assistant returning to their family farm, we are looking for a committed dairy enthusiast, able to contribute to the continued success of this herd following the expansion, also looking to take responsibility and apply their livestock skills with the support of the farm.
The new facilities comprise of a 26:52 parlour with ACR’s and milk meters running with Cow Manager and auto segregation. The herd are cubicle housed and self-fed, with a well set up grazing platform for the season.
We are able to offer a very attractive package in terms of remuneration and time off. There is good accommodation with a 3-bedroom, centrally heated house that is close to the unit.

LOCATION
The farm business is situated just outside Attleborough, there are both primary and secondary schools in the town, as well as general shops and facilities. Norwich is about 15 miles away with good rail and road routes.
THE FARM
This is a mixed farm, made up by 840 acres of grass and cropping. The family run farm is well staffed, and the unit well supported. The farm is turning over arable acreage to expand the dairy herd.
THE UNIT
The new unit became operational September 2023. The new unit also has cubicle housing for all heifer replacements and calf rearing facilities. The cows are cubicle housed and maize/grass silage is fed on a self-feed system. The 26;32 parlour runs with Cow Manager and Auto Shedding. The original facilities, now redundant to the farm are going into conversion
THE DAIRY HERD
The cross bred herd is currently doing over 7,500 litres/cow and calves in a tight autumn block. This is a well looked after herd with excellent production standards. The emphasis will continue to be on yield and efficiency of production from forage and block calving.
ACCOMODATION
There is a 3-bedroom semi-detached house on the outskirts of Attleborough and the edge of the farm, a short distance from the unit. The house is in very good order, has central heating and double-glazing and a garage. It is available free from rent and rates and council tax.
REMUNERATION
Subject to age and experience.
TIME OFF
This is a 245-day contract, with therefore 120 days off per contract year.
SUMMARY
This is a relatively new position following the herd expansion (the current assistant is returning to their family farm) aimed at operating a self-relieving milking team, the milking and routine is shared equally with support from the farm on colleague’s days off. The position offers the opportunity to expand a wide and comprehensive range of dairy skills, knowledge and experience within a friendly team environment.
